Who runs this
Findly is a private, family-oriented location-sharing app operated by Dynex bv (Belgium). If you have questions about this policy or your data, contact Findly@dynex.be.
What we collect
- Phone number — used only to sign you in (there are no passwords). Your phone number is handled by Firebase Authentication (operated by Google) and is not sent to or stored by our own backend, ever.
- Location — latitude/longitude, accuracy, and the time each position was recorded, reported periodically by devices you register.
- Device information — a device name/model, platform (Android/iOS), and a push notification token, so the app can wake your device and send you alerts.
- Geofence events — if you set up a "place" (like Home or School), we record when a device enters or leaves it.
- Group membership — if you create or join a temporary group, we store your display name for that group and your membership record for as long as the group exists.
We do not collect contacts, photos, messages, browsing history, or anything not listed above.
Who can see your data
Your location is visible only to the other members of your family (people you've explicitly invited) and, if you choose to join one, the other members of any temporary group you're part of (people who have your group's join code). We never sell your data, and we don't use it for advertising — there are no ad or analytics SDKs in this app.
Temporary groups are deliberately more limited: other members see only your current position and display name — never your device details, battery level, or location history.
How long we keep it
- Family location history is kept for up to 400 days, though the app itself only lets you look back 90 days by default.
- Temporary group locations are deleted automatically, typically within about a day of the group ending — the exact timing depends on which of three expiry options the group's creator chose (immediate deletion, a short grace period, or keeping just the member list as a memento with locations still deleted).
- If you leave a family or a group, your future location is no longer shared with it, but historical records already stored follow the retention rules above.
Data export & deletion
You can request a copy of your personal data at any time from within the app, or by emailing Findly@dynex.be.
You can permanently delete your account and its data at any time — immediately, without waiting on us — from within the app, or from this website at /delete-account, without needing to reinstall the app. Deletion removes your profile, devices, location history, and geofence event history; if you are the only parent in your family, it also deletes the entire family for every member. This cannot be undone. Leaving a family or group, or uninstalling the app and turning off sharing, stops further location collection immediately; the retention periods above then apply to any history already stored.
Children's accounts
This app is designed for family use and may be used by children as part of a family that is set up and supervised by a parent or guardian. Children do not create their own independent accounts. A parent or guardian is responsible for reviewing this policy and consenting on behalf of any child members of their family, and may remove a child from the family — which stops that child's location sharing — at any time.
Where your data is stored
Data is stored on Microsoft Azure infrastructure in the West Europe region. Authentication is handled by Firebase (Google). Push notifications are delivered via Firebase Cloud Messaging and, for iOS, Apple's Push Notification service.
Security
All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted (HTTPS/TLS). Sign-in uses phone-number verification instead of passwords, removing an entire category of password-related risk. Temporary group data is deliberately minimized (position-only, see above) specifically to limit what could ever be exposed even in the event of a problem.
Your rights
If you're in the EU/EEA or another jurisdiction with similar protections, you have rights to access, correct, or request deletion of your data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Contact Findly@dynex.be to exercise these rights.
Changes to this policy
We'll update the "last updated" date above whenever this policy changes, and post the new version at this same address.
